I thought it was about time I made use of this blog properly. I’ve no real reason for not doing it before now – other than my own insecurities and procrastination. I have wanted to get it going again for ages but who wants to read about me and my life? I guess we’ll find out :)
I’ve really no idea what I should write about, so I’ve decided to take a notebook/sketchbook around with me to jot down notes when (if) ideas come to me. So if you see me around somewhere scribbling in a notebook, I might just be roughing out a blog post.
So I suppose I should start with a bit more of an introduction to myself.
If you’ve read through this website before, you’ll know that I live in Bury, Lancashire and work part-time in The Trackside, a real ale bar that sits on platform 2 of Bolton Street Train station. I’ve been there since August bank holiday in 2010. A few years ago I was asked to make some paintings for the Buffer Stops – Trackside’s sister pub in Rawtenstall (The paintings are not on display anymore, most of them have sold and the pub has just undergone a refurb but I do still have some prints of the work available here), that ‘s why most of the work on my site is of train engines, but they are definitely not my only subject matter.
Speaking about my artwork, I feel a bit like I’m in limbo at the moment, I get like that when I’m struggling to get a piece finished. It takes a really long time to complete an artwork in coloured pencil – but I love the look of it, so I thought it might work out quicker if I did an under painting in a faster medium. Right now, I’m working on a Flying Scotsman piece. I did a layer in water soluble graphite before moving on to coloured pencil, it didn’t work as well as I wanted it to and its really starting to get on my nerves. I’m now trying to decide if I should persevere with it or start from scratch in pastels to match this Tornado I finished at the end of March.
Anyway, come and say hello if you visit the Trackside while I’m there, I’m the one with long, dark (Greying) frizzy hair, and I’m pretty sure I’m the oldest person who works behind the bar at the moment – that’s something that might change, you never know.
Tell you what; here’s my profile picture from Facebook, it’s a few years old but I don’t have many pictures of myself.
That’s my fiancé next to me - the awesome Ian.
Right, I think that’s enough for now – I don’t want to bore you to death. But if you have any questions or comments (even if its just to tell me that I ramble too much), you can use the comment link below and theres always the contact page. I promise that I will do my best to get back to you.
Oh by the way, I’m thinking of setting up a monthly newsletter. It will contain: snippets of this blog – so that you can easily access the bits you might be interested in, updates on any new work from that month and other little things that inspire me to write. I might even include a free gift in the welcome email if you’re interested. Let me know what you think?
